St. Matthias the Apostle is a worshiping community in the Episcopal Diocese of East Tennessee. It has 19 baptized members, mostly retirees, and it was founded Feb. 21, 1993. We average eight to nine at Sunday services, and we welcome visitors to our church home.
 

Service Schedule

• Holy Eucharist and Holy Unction on first Sundays, 11 a.m.
• Holy Eucharist on second Sundays, 1 p.m.
• Holy Eucharist on third Sundays, 11 a.m., followed by a potluck meal
• Morning Prayer on fourth and fifth Sundays, 11 a.m.

Bible Study: with "Synthesis" materials is offered following Sunday services.

Private Confession: according to the Book of Common Prayer is always available to those who seek it.

Confirmation Instruction: is available.


Driving Directions

From Interstate 81, take the U.S. 11-E exit. Turn onto 11-E/TN-34 toward Bulls Gap. Turn right onto TN-66, make a slight right onto ramp and keep right at fork in the ramp. Turn right onto Main Street; the church is on the left.

Church Outreach:
  • Collections of food and funds for Shepherd's Corner pantry includes "Penny Jar" collections
  • Thanksgiving dinner provisions for 2-6 families
  • Donate hand-made quilts and toys to local service organizations
  • Send calendars and prayer beads to military service personnel
  • Provide toys at Christmas for 2-6 children
  • Make church building available to community groups

  • Assembly of palm crosses for area church use on Palm Sunday
  • Thrift shop, yard sales, quilt raffles
